Almond croissant ($4.50) from Petite Shell, a kosher croissanterie on the Upper East Side. This was one of the better attempts at a patisserie state-side but it was rather over-priced. Take the following comments with a grain of salt since I was in Paris two months ago sampling as many patisseries as I could and therefore might be a bit hypercritical. There wasn't as much almond filling as I would have liked and the dough, though flaky and stretchy, could have been a bit thicker and its layers could have kept more integrity — all the layers sort of mushed into one thin one in some parts of the pastry. The cafe itself was lovely though with lots of windows and light, and all the croissants were served on cutting boards!
